Week of May 10-14, 2021
Latest Updates Regarding Covid-19
New information has been released this week from the CDC and from the Austin ISD Communications office regarding new guidelines from the CDC about mask requirements. To avoid confusion as we move into the last 3 weeks of school, I think it is best to refer you to the latest email update from AISD dated Friday, May 14th.
Included in that email is information regarding recent CDC Guideline updates, vaccination sites for 12 - 15 year old students, changes to mask requirements on campus when students are involved in outside-the-building physical education classes, and new updates to our quarantine protocols.
8th Grade Completion Ceremony Drive-By Event
In order to respect our families with graduating seniors at Akins and Bowie, Bailey has shifted it's 8th Grade Completion Ceremony Drive-By Event from the last day of school to Wednesday, June 2nd at 4:15 PM. (Akins and Bowie graduate the next day at 3:00PM and 7:00PM respectively.) Unfortunately, Covid-19 restrictions still prevent us from gathering in large numbers indoors, and we do not have the appropriate seating capacity for a large outdoor event. The Drive-By celebration, under the current circumstances, is still our best option. Details about how the drive-by will be scheduled alphabetically will be delivered to 8th grade students and families soon. We are planning something a little extra for the 8th graders on the last day of school. We'll keep you posted.
STAAR Testing update
All STAAR tests are complete for 6th and 7th graders and for most 8th graders. The students did a fantastic job as we tested more than 240 students in Math and more than 270 in Reading. Thank you all for coming and giving us your best effort.
Our final test will occur next Tuesday, May 18th, but it involves only our 8th grade students taking Algebra I for high school credit. It is strongly recommended that ALL 8th grade Algebra students take this EOC (End Of Course) test on Tuesday (or on Wednesday's make-up session) next week since it is REQUIRED for high school graduation. As before, all Covid 19 safety protocols will remain in effect. If you are a remote learner, please download the AISD Covid 19 Screener app, and on the morning of the EOC test, please answer the screener questions. Based on your answers you should get a 'Green screen" checkmark confirming you are okay to come on campus. If your answer produce a Red colored screen we cannot allow you to come on campus.
Finally, all students are welcome to return back to campus for In-Person instruction these last three weeks of school. You do not need to do anything extra. Your student can simply come back to school for in-person instruction. They will see each of their teachers in all classes, on A-days and B-days.
There is a COVID opportunity this weekend available for anyone 12 years old and older at the Travis County Expo Center. Please open link for more details.
Dear 6th Grade Parents,
We would like to offer your student the opportunity to tour Bailey Middle School prior to the 2021-2022 school year. Due to the cancellation of the 2020 Transition Camp and remote learning, many of the current 6th graders (rising 7th graders) are unfamiliar with the campus. Not all topics covered at Transition Camp are relevant to rising 7th graders, however, they may benefit from a tour of the campus. Tours will be offered Friday, August 6th. Follow the link below to register for a time slot.
Please note: Bailey will be adhering to current Austin ISD COVID 19 safety protocols which include: filling out the Covid 19 Screener App (Green Screen), taking temperatures at the door, wearing masks at all times, and remaining 6 feet apart, whenever possible.
Twilight at Bailey will continue through the end of May on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:45 - 5:30 PM and Saturday mornings from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM.

Summer school is not just for credit recovery- it is also for enrichment, preparation for advanced academics, and multilingual support! There are sections for each level--here is a link to the MS section. There is additional information for 8th graders interested in the Summer Bridge programs to prepare for PTECH or ECHS in the HS section.
Dear Bailey Middle School parent/guardian,
For students entering 7th grade for school year 2021-2022, they will need to have the Meningitis B vaccine and a booster T-dap vaccine. A copy of their immunization will need to be provided to the Health Room by August 17, 2021 to start school in the fall. You can email the updated immunization record to firstname.lastname@example.org or fax to 512-414-5434. Thank you for your help.
